Hopefully this doesn’t come across in the wrong way, but what’s the point of your business?
Why go through all the entrepreneurial effort of ‘making it happen’?
If you’re reading this post the chances are you’re not motivated by making money at any cost. The likelihood is you want to build a company you can feel proud of, which considers what impact it’s having on the world and in people’s lives – whilst providing excellent value and the best products and services for your customers.
If this sounds like you, then you are part of an ever-growing groundswell of founders and entrepreneurs who are thinking and acting along similar lines: building responsible businesses, embracing the concept of global interdependence, and being in it for the long term.
So, you’ll want to think about gathering and tracking data, which reflects where you are on this journey. This is where the B Impact Assessment (BIA) comes in. The BIA is a free and confidential tool, which businesses across the world use to score their impact.
It works like this:
You register your organisation’s key details, which generates a customised set of questions for you to consider. The questions are organised according to five ‘impact areas’, which are:
- Your governance arrangements
- Your local community
- Your workforce
- Your customers
- The environment
You score points according to what practices your business is committed to, in relation to the five areas. It also provides free resources to give you a greater understanding of where you have room to improve.
