Partnership announcement: Embracing Sustainability with Zero Waste Scotland

May 13, 2020

It's our privilege to announce that Zero Waste Scotland have joined us as a sponsor for Impact Summit 2020!

Zero Waste Scotland leads on the delivery of the Scottish Government's Circular Economy strategy and empowers companies to embrace the environmental, economic and social benefits of a circular economy - so we're thrilled that they have joined us in our mission to celebrate inclusive, sustainable, purpose-driven businesses.

While we have moved Impact Summit online for 2020 due to the Covid-19 crisis, we believe that sustainability and waste reduction must still be at the forefront of all business's minds. Environmental responsibility has always taken a major role in our decision making: with the climate emergency on our doorstep, every action to reduce our footprint is time-critical.

"Partnering with Zero Waste Scotland is a huge step towards achieving our sustainability goals," Bruce Walker, FutureX CEO and cofounder, said. "We're dedicated to minimising our environmental footprint in both our events and as a business - as well as encouraging other companies to do the same."

"Four-fifths of Scotland's carbon footprint is caused by the vast amount of goods, services and materials which we produce, use and often throw out after just one use," Iain Gulland, Chief Executive of Zero Waste Scotland, noted.

“The decision to move Impact Summit online illustrates just one of the many ways in which we are all learning about what we can do differently as we look ahead to the climate crisis which remains our greatest challenge."

Ian Gulland, Chief Executive, Zero Waste Scotland

A thriving green economy presents huge economic opportunities - to the tune of up to £3 billion in Scotland. By breaking the linear make-use-dispose cycle and keeping resources in use for as long as possible, businesses can create new value without putting more strain on our planet - and keep waste out of our landfills.

A major objective for the partnership is to connect companies with Zero Waste Scotland so they can realise both these economic and environmental benefits. At Impact Summit this May, Iain will deliver a keynote encouraging attendees to transition to a waste-free mindset, reduce their carbon emissions - all while growing their bottom line.

"Understanding the huge amount of waste Scotland produces is also a huge opportunity which can help us build back better," Iain stressed. "By keeping goods and materials in a ‘loop’ of use for as long as possible, we can turn waste into value."
